Abstract

Against the backdrop of deepening globalisation and digital integration, new-quality productive forces are reshaping the global industrial division of labour, creating key opportunities for China’s manufacturing export competitiveness to leap forward. Based on 2010–2023 panel data of 31 Chinese provinces, this paper examines the impact effects and transmission paths of new-quality productive forces on manufacturing export competitiveness. The results confirm that new-quality productive forces exert a significant positive effect on manufacturing export competitiveness, with industrialisation level playing a mediating role. The effect is significantly positive in eastern and central regions but insignificant in the western region. A threshold effect of urbanisation is identified: below the threshold, the positive impact is significant; above the threshold, it turns significantly negative, presenting a non-linear feature of diminishing marginal effect. Targeted recommendations are put forward accordingly.
